Community Health Intership Program (CHIP)

CHIP (Community Health Internship Program) is provided by the Milwaukee Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) to provide students a real life experience in the community health work world in the Milwaukee area. Placements are with health departments and community based organizations located in Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, Milwaukee, and Waukesha Counties.
Over 6 weeks (Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week), June 14 through July 23, 2010, interns work one-on-one with a mentor in a specific project approved and assigned by the CHIP coordinator. The project is designed to provide learning in organization, community health concepts, leadership and teamwork with professionals in the workplace. Interns are expected to attend MAHEC-organized community health oriented seminars on Tuesday afternoons.
Qualifications to apply include all of the following:
1. Interest in community health;
2. Enrollment in a health-oriented, or pre-health, curriculum at a college or university in Wisconsin OR residence in Wisconsin;
3. US residency;
4. GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Once accepted into the program in early May, students will choose their top 3 choices of projects to work on during the 6 week internship. Soon after, the assignments will be made and communicated to interns.
